Abstract Of Title

Fidan, Hafsa, The Image of Woman in The Koran, Doctoral Dissertation: Prof. Dr. Mehmet Paçacı, 206 p. The dissertation consists of an Introduction, three Chapters, and a Conclusion, In Introduction, subject matter, aim, and the methodology of the dissertation are presented. First Chapter takes the question of the relationship between language and woman into consideration in order to delineate the linguistic structure of woman image in the Koran. It discusses the problems of the linguistic dimension of woman by considering the women whom Koran refers to as specific instances of this dimension. Second Chapter portrays the historical structure of woman image in the Koran. It claims that women images constitute a common horizon by bringing the beginning, the middle, and the future dimensions of history into a mutual play so much so that this common horizon allows us to heed the being of woman. Third Chapter puts the meaning of the relationship between man and woman into question from the viewpoint of ontological dimension of the image of woman in the Koran. Upon the basis of dialectical relationship between man and woman, it reflects on the being of man as the possibility of understanding the being of woman. As a conclusion, the dissertation approaches the image of woman in the Koran from linguistic, historical, and ontological perspectives by demonstrating that these perspectives are fused to each other to bring the being of woman into a meaningful scene.
