Abstract Of Title

In our study, the verses addressing the formation and function of the mountains have been evaluated through exegesis tafsir and scientific data gained in this day and age. It’s a major impetus for our study that the topic hasn’t been studied through tafsir sources although it has been disputed on media by figures holding different views. First of all, we mentioned the wordings corresponding the mountain concept in the Qur ’an and their meanings. In this context, the words of “râsiye” and “revâsî” have been discoursed in particular. Besides, explanation of the wordings of “ أَنتَمِیدَبِكُمْ, أَنتَمِیدَبِھِمْ” (lest it shakes them/you) -which have been mentioned in Quran within the context of the function of mountains- by classical approach, have been studied pursuant to narratives and reasoning. After revealing the explanation of these wordings in our tafsir books, the manner of approaching relevant verses and observed changes through exegesis history have been cited. Within this framework, the approaches on the basis of narrative and reasoning in classical period and modern times are enlightened. Presenting these approaches, the chronological order is regarded and some approaches on modern period are criticized. In the final section, we have given opinions on these wordings and verses about their possible meanings along with scientific data gained in this day and age. In our approach, it is adopted that the relevant wordings and verses have the nature of serving for multiple theory and approa ches and c orrespondingly we concentrated on two possible theory/approaches.
