Abstract Of Title

ARPA Enver, İbn Taymiyya's Our'anic Understands and Method of Interpretation, Doct thesis, Supervisor: Assoc Prof. Dr. Mehmet Paçacı, VI-250p. The Thesis is composed of Introduction, three chapters, Conclusion and bibliography. İn the Introduction, the importance of the subject, method and scope of the research are explanied First chapter covers the biography of İbn Taymiyyah, social, political and cultural life in his era in addition to his realitons to the environment. Then his scholarly personality and writings are also introduced towards the end of the chapter. Second chapter deals with his qur'anic understanding, first of all, his general approach towards Qur'an, later his approach to Qur'an as a source of knowledge is analysed. To this end his philosophical perspective of Qur'an is studied in the contest ofKelamullah "Words of God". His views on the subject are put forward, his mistic vision of Qur'an and his approach to Qur'an as a source of law,fiqh, are also scrutinized Finally, peculiar- unique views about certain major subject are presented; then question of muhkem-mutaşabih, that of recitation (Kıraat) and 7 letters, mecaz-hakikat, Icazu'l-Qur'an and nesh in the Qur'an are also carefully studied. Third chapter focuses on his method to understand Qur'an. In the first part his viewpoint of Tafsir (Interpretation of Qur'an), Interpretation of narration(Rivayet), Interpretation of dirayet, types of conflicting views in interpretation and his standpoint to Israiliyat are all covered In the second part the principles applied in interpretation of Qur'anic verses and sources of tafsir are analysed. Finally, the major characteristics of his "interpretations" are stipulated A general evaluation is made and the position of interpretation in the tradition of interpretations is recorded in the conclusion.
