Abstract Of Title

SUMMARY SÜRER, Esengül, The Assesment of the Comments on Quran refering to the Women and an Attempt of a New Approach Doctorate Thesis Adviser: Prof. Dr. Salih Akdemir, VI, 213 p. This study within the framework of Qur'an, woman and interpretation is based on two parts. In the first part of our research, the classical and contemporary comments refering to the women were determined and evaluated. First of all, we examined the comments in the ancient interpretations. In these interpretations, in general, a woman opposing argument was used. It was commented that men were primary and superior from birth, wheras women are mentally defective, phisally weak, and it was explained that women should be excluded from society as they were often considered to be related to mischief. The comments of the ancient ulema do not reconcile the integrity of the Koran and the Prophet Muhammad's practices towards women. The ulema was under the impact of the patriarchal mentality which marked their contemporary age, and different cultures (Israeli). Consequently, these opinions are no more binding for today. The contemporary thinkers, on the other hand, do not comment on the Verses of the Qur'an refering to women as their predecessors. Even they criticized the latter severely. Contemporary thinkers deal with the woman issue within the problems mechanism. They tried to analyse the highly critical topics such as witnessing, inheriting, polygamy and divorce, taking into account the context of the Verses of the Qur'an, the integrity of the Qur'an, and the historical and cultural conditions of the period that they were descended. In the second part of our research, we attempted to introduce a new approach towards Qur'an and women subject. First of all, apart from strict and pressive comments and understandings, we underlined the importance of reading of Qur'an and to extract its Verses which base on peace, love and mercy. Qur'an sees woman and man equal; and defines the woman as responsible, a free will individual who must bear her own practices. Moreover, it doesn't put obstructs on the woman presense in social life, to undertake public offices, or to participate in training activities. On the contrary, permits and encourages the activities which would raise the understanding level, to realize herself to reach happiness of the world and the Great Beyond.
