Abstract Of Title

Quran courses are one of the institutions which are active for replying the need Turkish public?s religion education. Proficiency of Quran courses teachers are very important for the success of these institutions.This study is about the self-assessment of Quran courses teachers and their proficiency in education. Proficiency perception of the teachers who are still working are examined and findings are explained and interpreted with interview results. In 2007 890 teachers who work in İstanbul, Ankara, İzmir, Bursa, Antalya, Kayseri, Samsun, Trabzon, Erzurum, Malatya and Gaziantep participated this research.Most of the teachers who participated this research perceive themselves efficient about the education proficiency. Teachers who are talked about perceive themselves efficient about the subjects; ?to recognize the students?, ?planning the teaching?, ?organizing the teaching?, ?directing the teaching?, ?guiding the students?, evaluating the teaching?, ?professional development?.Perception scores differentiate according to their status, seniority, graduation programs, participation to study courses and cities they work and also change according to their genders and positions of being hafız.Interviews which are done with them show that they don?t know reality of identifying students. They don?t identify students with scientific ways. Interviews which are talked about them show that enough conscious isn?t formed, extensive and planning which is suitable to its principles isn?t done. According to interviews results there are important deficiencies about using new teaching techniques and materials, duration and evaluation.Teachers have some deficiencies about recognizing the problems of students, guiding the solution of these problems, organizing activities that improve students etc. These interviews also show that teachers don?t know the importance of professional development and they don?t struggle for it.Key Words: Quran Courses, Quran Courses Teachers, Proficiency of Quran Courses Teachers.
