Abstract Of Title

Ellipsis can be defined as leaving out a word or phrase; a sentence or several sentences from a statement. The validity of "ellipsis" requires a clue proving the omssion. Since the principle is the mentioning of something in a speech/utteranace, when it is ambigious whether there is ellipsis or not, the absence of ellipsis has to be assumed. The deleted item is to be regarded with the least possible word(s) and within the exact place in the syntax. Metaphor should not be considered as ellipsis. Elipsis is an important alternative for "îcâz". Ellipsis may stem from a speaker's preference and cultural reasons as well as a practice of Arabic grammar. Omission of word(s) sentences and prepositions can be seen in the Quran just the same as they can be seen in Arabic language. The Quran uses elliptical method to constitute general aims such as effective utterance and eloquence, as well as presenting "îcâz", general statement, avoiding engaging in futility and harmony in sound among verses. The holy book of Quran does have idiosyncractic practices of ellipses due to reasons which originate from the style peculiar to itself. It is possible to encounter a lot of ellipses not in compliance with elliptical criteria in our resources.
