Idiom is a kind ofthese figurative expression. It is absolutely difficult for people who speak a foreign language tounderstand idioms as they both arrive these days being filtered and theirbackground and the owner of them aren?t known exactly. In order to solve thisproblem. It is inevitable not only to understand the real and figurativemeaning of expressions but also to have the knowledge the language into whichthe translation is made furthermore one should know the idioms, terms andproverbs of the foreign language in general use.It is a fact that idiom is especially related to proverb and term as well asall metaphorical expressions. Thus, the probabılity of being confused of an idiom and proverb is formore. But there is certain differences between a proverb and idiom when oneknow this difference there will be no problem. An Idiom shows a state, where as a proverb shows a sentence oropinion for example:?etle tırnak gibi olmak? meaning to be very closely related.?Etle tırnak birbirinden ayrılmaz.?meaning A finger nail can not beseperated from the finger. (You can?t seperate close relatives or friends.)The Koran which was sent in Arabic to Arabian people uses thelanguage and the grammer of this community effectively. That?s why, thereare many idioms in Koran which the Arabic Culture of the period used mostly. We have freguent problems in the translation of these idiomaticexpressions from Arabic to Turkish. The reason why we have such problems isthat we translate these expressions using their real meaning not themetaphorical one.To do the best translation we have to apply fort he writter workcontaining the knowledge of metaphorical expresions and their background. In this thesis about the idioms in The Holy Book Koran I have tried tofind out the real meaning of 115 idioms and suggested how they can betranslated into Turkish best. I have practiced my thesis on verses in order tomake clear what I have meant.
