Abstract Of Title
This study aims to determine the sociocultural backgrounds of the students and accordingly to state the place of the sociocultural practices that students bring into the school in the establishment of the existing school culture and the interaction processes between these two phenomena. Therefore, the main focus of the research is on the social behavior practices and cultural codes that students take to the school in the process of setting up the school culture. So, as important members of the school community, the interactions of students with each other and with the other members of the school community in the daily life of the school are at the center of this focus. Schools, which are social units where people live together within interactions, are important research areas in terms of the authenticity of the interaction processes of sociocultural patterns of the members of the school community. Therefore, this study is designed as a school ethnography. The study was carried out in two Anatolian High Schools in Mamak and Çankaya, which represent two different socioeconomic levels in Ankara. The study group of the research consisted of 40 students and 12 teachers from both schools. The data of the study were gathered through interviews with participant students, focus group discussions with teachers and participant observations. As a result of the study, it was understood that school culture was a socially constructed phenomenon by the interaction of members of the school community. In this respect, it has been determined that the sociocultural backgrounds that students acquired in the socialization processes outside the school, that they bring into the school through their habitus and cultural capitals, and that are reflected in the social behavior practices in school life are strong determinants in the establishment of school culture. Because of different cultural codes that the students bring into school, the school culture is accordingly created within different establishment processes in both schools. However, the formal norms of the schools sometimes do not compromise with the cultural codes that the students bring into the school. As a result of these incongruities, the establishment processes of school culture can become a part of the schools' cultural reproduction mechanisms.
