Abstract Of Title

This Ph.D thesis which is entitled ?Linguistic Tafseer and its contribution towards understanding the Qur?an, (First three centuries after Hijrah)? consists of an introduction, three main chapters, a conclusion and a bibliography.The first chapter is entitled ?Conceptual and Historical Framework?. In this chapter we dwelled upon linguistics-Philology relationship and gave information about sub-divisions of linguistics. An information relating to the history of linguistical studies in the East and in the West. At the end of first chapter the subjects of linguistics- Tafseer relationship and concept of ?Linguistic Tafseer? are also studied.The second chapter is entitled ?Emergence and development of Linguistic Tafseer?. In this chapter we tried to determine religious, cultural, political and economical factors which played a role in the emergence of Linguistic Tafseer. Then some evaluations are made concerning explanations by the Prophet, His Companions and the followers of the Companions pertaining to language. We also studied and compared the Works of Tafseer related to Linguistics during the period of first three centuries after Hijrah.The third chapter is entitled ?Understanding of the Qur?an and Linguistic Tafseer?. In this chapter we tried to find out the function of the Linguistic Tafseer in the context of its sub-divisions in comprehending the Qur?an.The thesis ends with a conclusion and a bibliography.Key Words: Linguistic Tafseer, Philological Tafseer, Linguistics, Meaning, Understanding.
