Abstract Of Title

In this study, within the context of Turkish modernisation, it has been aimed that the reflections of ongoing religious politics over the identity of women are to be determined through an interpretive approach and field study. In the research, the starting point was that there was a structural integrity between reciprocal relationships of the state and religion in the historical course of modernisation of Turkey and also within this structure, an identity model for women was aimed at being formed. Via the point of view gained through institutional framework, the religious politics run by the governments today reflecting upon the education and employment of women have been analysed within the samplings of religious Quran course instructors. In this context, a study based on narration technique with 40 instructors working at religious Quran courses has been conducted. The interview group has been determined through social problem solving questionnaire amidst volunteers. The data acquired from the qualitative study has been thematically analysed. The data collected from the field have been analysed via tracking the open coding; axial coding in which the relationships among categories have been resolved, and selective coding in which the narrations / accounts are correlated with categories to form a story The analysis of the data gathered from the field study from historical and theoretical perspectives enabled us to evaluate the limitations and opportunities which the women have who received religious education and who work as instructors in Quran courses within the dilemma of modern and religious identity. In the final analysis when the current opportunities and limitations are taken into account, the women Quran instructors are seen not to have adopted a stance aiming at social gender equality, yet those who adopted such a stance are observed not to have put this into practice. This attitude which is parallel to the analytical tool of conceptual patriarchal bargaining has been determined to have been caused by the authorities they received because of the their position as both being a civil servant and a cleric as well as the cultural capitals they internalised in their educational process and family along with the symbolic capitals from the source of their religious values Key Words: Gender, Patriarchial Bargaining, Turkish Modernization, Religous Field, Habitus, Cultural Capital, Symbolic Capital, Quranic Courses Instrocturs, Instructor's Authority.
