“The relationship between Sirah and Quran (Meccan period)”

KORKUT DİNDİ

Abstract Of Title

It is being observed, recently, that a number of particular and theoretical studies are carried out about the resourcefulness of Quran to the life of the prophet and vice versa, or about the idea that the Quran and the life of the prophet must be understood together. This research, as a continuation of those studies in question, tries to criticize and evaluate some specific issues related with the Meccan period of the prophethood of prophet Mohammad within the framework of the methodology of history and social sciences and with a scientific and a critical method. This study constitutes also a typical and a comprehensive example of reading and understanding the Quran both in its own history and together with the life of the prophet. There is no doubt that understanding the Quran correctly will only be possible by reading and examining the life of the prophet under the guidance of the Quran and vice versa. This study, addressing the relationship between the life of the prophet Mohammad and the Quran, consists of an introduction and five chapters. A short information about the historical process and the quality of the relationship of the Quran and the prophetic biography is provided within the introductory part. In the first chapter, the religious and ethical situation of the prophet Mohammad preceding the prophethood is being examined. In the second chapter, the types of the Meccan polytheists' characterization of the prophet of God is dwelled on. In the third chapter, the messengership of the prophet Mohammad and the demands from the messenger are handled within the context of the objections and oppositions of the polytheists and an evaluation of the question of whether these demands can be regarded as "demands for miracle" is made. In the fourth chapter, the prophethood of the prophet Mohammad and some of the Quranic addresses towards the interlocutors are explored particularly within the frame of the addresses made to the Children of Adam and Children of Israel. The question of whether these addresses are of a racial quality is also discussed within the same chapter. In the fifth chapter, the identity of the race and clans of the jinns who listened to the Quran from the prophet of God is being tried to be determined.
