YAHYA SHENOL
Abstract Of Title
Which animal source foods are lawful or forbidden, is one of the key issues that occupy minds for centuries. This issue is explained in the Qur'an, and foods are divided into two groups: the clean (tayyib) and the foul (khabeeth). The clean foodstuffs have been made lawful and the foul ones have been forbidden. It is stated in the Qur'an that only four types of foodstuffs are prohibited: The meat from dead animals (ones that died naturally), drained blood, pork, and meat from animals dedicated to any other than Allah. Additionally, some animal source foods are prohibited by the practices of Prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h). These issues are analyzed in this thesis called "Lawfulness (Being Halal) Criteria of Animal Source Foods in the Qur'an". This thesis consists of three chapters. The first chapter of the thesis lists the important terms related to lawful (halal) foodstuff. The second chapter is about the foodstuff regarded as forbidden (haram) in the Qur'an and the practices of the Prophet (p.b.u.h.). The last one covers animal slaughtering and current problems related to it. Keywords: Halal Food, Halal Criteria, Animal Source Foods, Gelatin, Animal Slaughtering, Prohibitions in the Quran.
