Abstract Of Title

The dissertation is comprised of introduction, analysis, text and conclusion chapters. In the introduction chapter, history of Modern Uyghur Turkish and the translations of Qur?an are mentioned; moreover, the studies on this field are included. In the analysis chapter, first, the religious terms are classified according to their subjects and analysed in sub-headings. Then, the spelling of religious terms with Arabic letters and transcriptions are given. All the direct translations of the terms are presented with the numbers of the surah and the verses in both modern Uyghur Turkish and Karakhanid Turkish. The meanings of the terms in Uyghur Turkish are completely written, and a verse for each concept including the term is presented as a sample.Religious terms in both translations are emphasized in terms of vocabulary. Since the words in the translation of Qur?an written during the reign of Karakhanid were directly translated, the number of the Turkish equivalents of religious terms in modern Uyghur Turkish is more with regard to the translation of Qur?an. In addition, the effect of Arabic and Persian on the historical translation and modern Uyghur Turkish translation are compared. The text chapter of the dissertation involves the translation of the Qur?an in modern Uyghur Turkish. This translation is entirely translated from Arabic letters into Latin letters. Since the Modern Uyghur Qur?an translation has itself the page numbers, the pages of the translation are not numbered again. In the translation phase, each line was given a number and then it was transferred from Arabic Alphabet to Latin Alphabet. The number of the verses in the surahs are presented in the line in a parenthesis. The names of the surahs are written in capital letters and the lengths in Arabic words are indicated in the transcription. All the punctuation marks in the translation of Qur?an in modern Uyghur Turkish are shown in exactly the same way. The footnotes are also presented. In the conclusion chapter, statistical values regarding the religious terms stated in the translations of Qur?an in Karakhanid Turkish and modern Uyghur Turkish are presented. These statistical values revealed that there existed more Turkish words for religious terms in the translations of Qur?an in Karakhanid Turkish than those in modern Uyghur Turkish. However, it was observed that the number of Arabic words for religious concepts in the translations of Qur?an in modern Uyghur Turkish outnumbered the Turkish words. Moreover, it was determined that both in Karakhanid Turkish and modern Uyghur Turkish, participles and word-phrases were frequently used for the lexicalization of new terms.Key words:Karakhanid TurkishModern Uyghur TurkishTranslations of Qur?anReligious termComparison
