Abstract Of Title

Lady Mary is one of the central figures in the Holy Qur’an. Besides
her characteristics depicted as the epitome of chastity, loyalty and
obedience, the important events of Mary’s life find a large mention
in the Qur’an. The most important point of her life is the Virgin
Birth. The narrative of this event in particular draws attention to
three points: sending down rooh to Mary, the blowing of the soul
and the representation of rooh as a well-proportioned man. This
study will examine how the conception is described in Quran,
what is rooh sent to Mary and what lies behind representation
as a man. Quran explains this event by briefly referring in different
parts and narrating the conception process and birth in the
Chapter Mary in a substantial way. Therefore, to understand how
Quran explains this occurrence, a holistic approach is necessary.
Taking into consideration Quran’s integrity, relevant passages
and the explanations by exegesis books, it is realized that rooh sent to Mary is Gabriel and he appeared to Mary in a man form for
several reasons, such as not causing scare and panic.
