Abstract Of Title
God Alrnighty did not send the Holy Qur'an from the heaven as papers,
but revealed it to the heart of the last Prophet whom he chose
from among other human beings. Narnely, God Alrnighty has not forsaken
his Holy Book and gave three tasks to the prophet Mohammad
(peace be upon Him) about it: 1-Conveyance of the texts of the Holy
Qur'an, 2-Explanation of many points of it when required, 3- Uncovering
the ways for putting the Quranic injunctions into practice. Many
verses of the Holy Qur'an such as Nahl 44 and 89 or Hashr 7 clearly
point out such authority and duty of the Prophet Mohammad. On the
other hand, a lot of verses of the Holy Qur'an, like Ahzab 34, mention
the concept of wisdom that, according to commentators, means the
Sunnah of the Prophet (peace be upon him). Despite the fact that they
were the people with high intelligence and vast knowledge about the
Arab language and eloquence, the leading companions of the Prophet
Mohammad (pbuh) definitely needed his commentaries. There is no
doubt that the next generations needed them more than those companions.
The aim of the Prophetic explanations in many different occasions
is to merely clarify the purpose of the Qur'anic verses, therefore, it
should not be definitely expected that the Prophet Mohammad like other
commentators had exerted a programmed commentary by using
scientific terminology. His explanations from the point of quantity are
considerably immense. All commentators unanimously agree that, without
recourse to the Prophet's commentaries, the Qur'an can not be
properly understood and implemented. In our article, we attempt to
summarize the functions of the Sunnah.
