Abstract Of Title

SUMMARY THE DIMENSION OF SERVITUDE IN THE QUR'AN When we think the universe and its contents we will see that there is a Creator together with creatures. Consequently we will reach the exixtence of the relationship between the Creator and the creatures. In other words, there is a strong relationship between the perfect creatures (humankind) and the Best of the creators (Allah). In this study we try to analyse the status of man in this world from the Qur'anic perspectives. This research consists of one introduction and four chapters. The first chapter deals with the relationship between God and man. Here we focus on two types of relations, namely from God to man and the opposite. By this we try to establish the basis of the notion of the servitude in the Qur'an. In the second chapter, we mainly concentrate on the terminological and semantical analysis of the concept of the servitude (ubudiyyah) together with some other topics such as the reasons for servitude, its vulue. In chapter three, we divide the notion of servitude into two: the servitude of Lord and the servitude of others apart from God. In adition, we will deal with the principles of faithful servitude. In chapter four we investigate briefly the reflection of the dimension of ubudiyyah (servititude). On the basis of human's nature (fitrah), the material (pysical) and immaterial (spiritual) dimension of ubudiyyah can be tackled. This can be done in the light of the division in chapter three. Briefly, the servitude (ubudiyyah) is the biggest and strongest type of relationship between God and man which goes from man to God. In fact, the humankind is created only for purposes (Zariyat,51/56). The servitude goes beyond its classical definition 'human's action in definite time and place (ibadah) for the sake of God' and contains everything doen by man for the sake of God. In the light of this broad definition, we can consider as a servant not only humankind but also all the creatures in the universe (Maryam, 19/93). So the Lord of the world is not only the Lord of humankind but also the Lord of all the creatures worlds. XI
