“Oath style in the Qur'an ”

Abstract Of Title
This study includes examination of oaths and their meaning in context of each surah particularly and in the integrity of Quran as a whole. This study consists of five sections. In the first section, general explanations about subject, scope, methodology and basic reference sources of the study are submitted. In the second section, conceptual and linguistic framework of oaths, different types of oaths, primary subjects of oaths and oaths in pre-Islamic Arabic language and tradition are examined. In the third section of the study, it was dealt with those whom oaths are made on in the Quran, oath styles and relevant examples of oaths, including oaths in some narratives in Quran were discussed and different styles in surahs that are revealed in Makkah and Medinah were compared. In the fourth section, possible reasons for oaths, their aims, results and jurisprudence values, and different approaches about why Allah made oaths were discussed. Final conclusions are made in the fifth section. That, making an oath is a linguistic communication and interaction instrument for instilling confidence and trust between people and communities since the beginning of human history. While oaths were used to be made on any sacred thing in pre-Islamic period, after Islam, faithful are required to make oaths only on Allah himself. But the oaths made by Allah on creatures and other entities were considered as an indirect oath returning to himself.
