“Albanian origin scholars and their works in the field of Kur'an sciences and tafsir during the Ottoman period”

Abstract Of Title

Muslims entered the territory of Albania at about the 14th century. After these dates, the number of people who adopted Islam in Albania increased, and after the Ottoman Empire took over the administration, many statesmen and scholars came from these lands. However, what kind of contributions these people who grew up in Albania made to the history of science have not been studied sufficiently. Therefore, this study deals with the contributions made by the people of Albanian origin who grew up in the Ottoman period in the field of Tafsir. Although there are important studies about the statesmen who borned and grew up in the region, the studies on the works presented in the field of Islamic sciences are very few. Our research aims to analyze the tafsir studies we have handled from libraries and archives in different countries in terms of content, relations with other tafsir works, writing language and social political reflections. Our findings show that while the authors wrote their works, they mostly followed any of the classical and modern tafsir writing schools. There are also viziers who took important positions at the state level among the counselors. It is also understood that tafsirs were widely read not only in madrasas but also in mosques and tekke (lodges). This emerging painting is expected to contribute to the dominant perspective in Albanian national historiography, in which the scientific studies of the Ottoman period were ignored.
