Abstract Of Title
The aim of the present study is to investigate the types of devoutness among the women participating in the Quran courses in the central district of Sivas and to evaluate their religious coping activities and psychological wellbeing and the interrelation between these variables. Moreover, it seeks to reveal the interaction of these variables with socio-demographic characteristics. The universe of the study includes the women participating in the Quran courses in Sivas. The sample group of the study includes 658 women participating in the Quran courses in the years 2008-2009 in the central district of Sivas, selected by non-randomized sampling. In order to obtain data, the researcher used the questionnaire technique. The items in the questionnaire include scales for religious tendencies, religious coping activities and psychological wellbeing and some demographic variables. The data obtained by means of the questionnaire taking nearly half an hour for each participant were analyzed through the use of some analytical tools in SPSS, that is, f test, correlation, factor, item, validity and reliability analysis. According to the results of the present study, the majority of the participants in the Quran courses are young adults; most of them are married and primary school graduates, to a greater extend living in the central district. The participants, commonly, have a moderate-income level and it can be said that they are moderately religious. The socio-demographiccharacteristics of the women participating in the Quran courses generally have an effect on their types of devoutness, religious coping activities, and psychological wellbeing. Moreover, as for the internally motivated devoutness, there is a meaningful positive relation between, religious coping activities and psychological wellbeing of the women participating in Quran courses. On the other hand, in terms of the externally motivated devoutness, there is a meaningful negative correlation between the religious coping activities and individual development one of the items within the psychological wellbeing. However, no other meaningful correlation between the externally motivated devoutness and the other dimensions of the psychological wellbeing has been found. No meaningful correlation has been found between religious coping activities and individual development, among the dimensions pertaining to the psychological wellbeing of the women participating in the Quran courses. On the other hand, there is a meaningful positive relation between individual development and other dimensions of psychological wellbeing (positive relations and environmental skills).
