Abstract Of Title

Human is a being that has values. His existence is meaningful with his values. Values are meant to make life meaningful everywhere a person is and in everything he does. The concepts of values such as good-evil, right-wrong, beautiful-ugly, profit-loss, sweet-bitter, useful-harmful are used in relation with all areas of life. There is a hierarchy of living things and values. This hierarchy is not only among the different types of living things but also has a ranking in its own structure as well. While ranking values as "good, better, the best or excellent" is a positive hierarchy; it is a negative hierarchy to rank values as "bad, worse, the worst or terrible." Qur'an is a book of value. It teaches the values that will make a human being's life delighted and meaningful. There is a ranking/hierarchy of values in Qur'an, too. Some people and some actions (practices) are superior to and more valuable than the others. In the verses of Qur'an, people and values, compared with "ism-i tafdil" structures and that have the qualifications classified as "the best" and "the worst", are frequently mentioned. In this thesis that we have investigated, we have dealt with the 'superlatives of the Qur'an', namely the hierarchy of value and being in the Qur'an. We tried to identify and analyze our thesis in three parts: In Chapter 1, the conceptual framework of the hierarchy of value and being in the Qur'an is examined. In Chapter 2, the subject of 'Allah' is examined as the absolute being and the most supreme value. In Chapter 3, the position of human being in the hierarchy of values and being in the Qur'an is examined; moreover, 'the best' and 'the worst' belongings to human being are detected and analyzed. Key words: Qur'an, being, value, hierarchy, superlatives, superiority, names of Allah, good action
