Abstract Of Title

The purpose of this study with the title "Role Of Recitation (Qiraat) In the interpretation of the Qur'an: An Example of al-Zajjâj and al-Tabari" is identifying the qiraat fact and its relationship with the interpretation of the Qur'an in the books of Abû Ishâq Az-Zajjâj's "The Meanings And Expressing Of The Quran (Meʿâni'l-Kur'ân ve İʿrâbuhû)" and Abu Ja'far Muhammad ibn Jarir al-Tabari's Jami al-bayan which are accepted to be the most important books of the early period of Qur'an interpretation. The study is composed of six parts,; abstract, three discussion parts, conclusion and references. In the first part of the study, primarily, information about the life stories of al-Zajjaj and al-Tabari, their system of thought, the historical period they lived in and the content of their Qur'an interpretation works are given. In addition, interpretation of Qur'an as a discipline is discussed and within this context the description, purpose, subjects and short history of qiraat discipline are also examined including the seven letters-qiraat and qiraat-interpretation relationships. In the second part, the qiraat methodologies of al-Zajjaj and al Tabari are scrutinized; also the critics against these two scholars with regards to qiraat discipline are identified. In the third part, the classification of al-Zajjaj and al-Tabari's qiraat angles in the context of Arabic language and the relationship of their angles with the Qur'an interpretation discipline are tried to be analyzed comparatively. The study is ended with the conclusion and references parts.
