İSA KANİK
Abstract Of Title
Abdurrahman Habenneke el-Meydânî (d. 2004) is an interpreter of the Quran in near era. He is a diligent and prolific scholar, and a man of cause, too. Born into a scholarly family, and through his affinity to Islamic sciences, he wrote many works in the fields of Tafseer, Quranic Sciences, Logic, Ethics, History of Religions, Poetry and Literature, which contributed to the wealth of Islamic thought and culture. Born in Syria, having travelled in Egypt, Lebanon, India and Saudi Arabia for scholarly purposes, Meydanî had some administrative and official jobs too. Upon the completion of such works, he wrote the interpretations of Meccan verses in a work titled, 'Meâricu't-Tefekkür ve Dekâiku't-Tedebbür'. The Glorious Quran was gradually sent to humanity in a period of twenty three years based on the different contexts through different incidents and events, aiming at education and progress. Therefore, Meydanî, focusing on the difference between verses sent in Mecca and Medina periods, followed a methodology based on the order of revelation, believing that society's awareness and improvement could be raised through salvation and religious objectives. Because of the semantic depth, he preferred to use tedebbür instead of tafseer. Since a work without certain methods and principles and with full of spontaneous ideas and aimless sentences would be far away from being a literary work, it may also milead its readers too. Thus, Meydanî collated the forty principles which were found in the works of Quran interpreters and wrote the book, Kavâ'id. The number of principles as to the correct understanding and interpretation of Quran can be increased. These rules and examples given in the order of revelation form the framework of his book with a preface, 'Me'âric'. These principles enabled Meydanî to climb up the stairs of thought and able to perceive the details of rightful understanding. Keywords: Qur'an, Meydânî, Me'âric, Kavâ'id (forty principles), Meccan verses, Order of revelation.
