Abdullah Kuşçuoğlu
Abstract Of Title
This paper deals with one of the terms of Arabic grammar (nahw), ziyādah (excess). One of the areas where the best examples of structure and meaning relationship styles are given is ziyādah. Our article presents the lexicon and terminological meanings of this concept and the terms that are used instead of this concept. In addition, this paper tries to give the views of scholars from the fields of syntax, tafseer, hadith,rhet-oric (balagha) and more specifically answers to the question of whether there is ziyādah in the Quran or not. Ziyādah is not an unnecessary excess of words that its existence and absence does not differ. Ziyādah is used to strengthen the weak agent (āmil), and to highlight the rhetorical aspect of the language. Ziyādah is a different type of literary style that decorates the word, provides harmony, and regulates the relationships between structure and meaning in the discipline of Arabic syntax. The issue of ziyādah in the Quran and the Arabic language emerged after the first periods of Islam, and the difference in the perspectives of the concept has paved the way for discussion in various fields and times until today. The reasons for these discussions are based on the inability to fully grasp the peculiar features of the Arabic language, to see that the aim is the harmony of structure and meaning and reaching the spiritual wisdom. In the present study, I examine the rejections and reactions against the understanding that there is no ziyādah in the Quran, together with their results. By witnessing how the Quran is a miraculous book, both literally and historically, I will emphasize on the method of ziyādah as one of the beauty of Arabic language.
