“he Effect of the Contextual Meaning on the Grammatical Analysis in Qur'anic Exe-gesis”
Bünyamin Aydın
Abstract Of Title
When the grammatical structureof the sentence enables more than one grammatical analysis, the indirect receiver’s analyses can be exposed to the effects of tendencies concerning the politics, the belief and the school of thought. This means that the contextual elements can be determinant on the grammatical analysis. There are two points in discussions on the relationship between context and grammatical analysis. One of them is the claim that it is possible to generate grammatical analyses valid in all linguistic contexts. The secondisthe view that the grammatical analysis is surrounded by the semantic restrictions and directed by the contextual circumstances. The critique made by Abū Hayyān against Zamakhsharī focuses on this point. Zamakhsharī is of the opinion that, there is therestriction in sentences where the object comes before the verb. According to Abū Hayyān, who argues that the basis of the grammatical analysis should be the context, the determining factor in obtaining the meaning of restriction is context and an analysisbased on the merely linguistic structure of the sentence does not pro-duce correct results. In this study, the dimensions of the effect of context on the grammatical meaning will be discussed; and the quality of the grammatical analysis and the essence ofthe relationship between grammatical interpretation and context will be assayed on the basis of Abū Hayyān's critique against Zamakhsharī, two scholars who have important works in Arabic language and exegetics. Thus, the question of whether grammatical analysis has a basis other than linguistic references will be tried to answer. Additionally, an answer to the question of whether a grammatical rule is valid in all linguistic contexts will be sought.
